As part of Ireland’s only Ibero-American film festival, coming to Dublin at the end of April, the Irish Film Institute (IFI) is screening gay film Ramón Y Ramón, an intimate story of unexpected friendship during the Covid lockdown. GCN is thrilled to announce that we have three pairs of tickets to see this powerful film to give away to some lucky readers.
IBERSCREEN 2025 is Ireland’s first Ibero-American film festival, hosted at the IFI from April 24 to 27. Celebrating the richness and diversity of the Ibero-American cinema, the programme brings together the best films from countries such as Argentina, Mexico, Brazil, Costa Rica, Spain, Peru, and Colombia.
One of the highlights of the festival is Ramón Y Ramón, which follows the story of the titular protagonist, a young gay man from Peru. Ramón has just received the ashes of his father, with whom he had a troubled relationship, when he meets Mateo, a young Spaniard stranded in his building during the Covid lockdown.
Although the two are really different, they form a deep friendship, and Mateo eventually accompanies Ramón on a journey to take his father’s ashes to Huancayo, his homeland. With the backdrop of the natural beauty of Peru, the journey will bring Ramón to reconnect with his past and confront old wounds.

Directed by Peruvian director Salvador del Solar, the film is based on a true story of a chance meeting between two boys, one gay and one straight, during Covid. It is a powerful exploration of difficult family ties and a country where enormous inequality persists.
Ramón Y Ramón is screening at the IFI on April 25 at 6:20pm. Tickets are on sale at this link, but if you’re feeling lucky, simply answer the following question for a chance to win a pair:
Which country does the protagonist of Ramón Y Ramón come from?
The competition closes on Thursday, April 24, 2025. Winners will be contacted directly and shared on social media.
