Garrett Fitzgerald, co-owner of Brother Hubbard, talks about his experience in Dublin

To launch our on-going partnership with DublinTown and Rainbow Mile, we asked the co-owner of popular restaurant Brother Hubbard some questions about Dublin for this month’s issue of GCN.

1. In ten words or less, tell us why do you love doing business in Dublin town?

The people! Dublin is like one big, friendly neighbourhood.

2.The most gay-friendly haunt in the city, apart from the scene?

The great thing about Dublin, and Ireland, since the marriage referendum in particular, is that gay-friendly places are becoming more and more the norm!

3. If you could do one thing to improve Dublin, what would it be?

The weather!. A few more weeks of sun a year would be ideal. That and a more sensible transport system, to fully open up this wonderful city.

4.Who is your favourite Dubliner of all time, dead or alive?

Oscar Wilde, perhaps, or David Norris. 

 5.Hidden gem of the city?

The Iveagh Gardens on a sunny day is hard to beat in terms of stepping away from it all.

6.Your favourite thing about your street?

Capel Street is such a unique street, full of personality and individuality, remaining relatively untouched by the franchisation that’s taking over other parts of the city.

7.What’s your top-tip for tourists?

Arrive hungry, stay out late, get up early, pound the pavements and explore – talk to the locals along your way, we’re always happy to help. Oh, and bring an umbrella.
