Maynooth’s seminary council has stepped up the supervision of trainees priests in the wake of the recent ‘Grindr’ scandal.

As part of a host of new measures aimed at combatting the prolific use of gay hook-up app Grindr, all trainee priests will now be required to eat communally and to attend rosary each evening at 9pm.

The new measures, instituted by Maynooth’s trustees, also includes a review of “appropriate use of the internet and social media”.

Previously, evening rosary was not mandatory and trainess could dine where they pleased, The Irish Independent reports.

The seminary council also announced that they would eat with the seminarians at both breakfast and dinner at Pugin Hall instead of the Professors’ Refectory.

Following the scandal earlier this month, Archbishop of Dublin Diarmuid Martin announced he was withdrawing his seminarians from Maynooth and sending them to the Irish College in Rome.

The seminary, founded in 1785, has long been the site of same-sex activity. In the ’90s it was cheekily referred to as the ‘Pink Palace‘.
