Unmissable queer events happening in Ireland this November

Grab your calendar and get ready to fill it out with this lineup of LGBTQ+ events.

We may be bidding a fond farewell to spooky season, but the events gods are smiling down on us with a stunning line-up of queer gigs to check out this November.

That’s right, this month’s offering of LGBTQ+ friendly gigs are so enticing that we’re firing up the group chat as we speak – and there’s truly something for everyone on the cards. From a self-defence class in Outhouse to the triumphant return of the Dublin Book Festival, we’re rearing and ready to dust off those winter blues with these fabulous queer events this November.

Out of the Page – Dublin Book Festival
November 9 – 15

 

For an entire week, Dublin City will come alive with a great lineup of author talks, panel discussions and lots more as the Dublin Book Festival returns. On Saturday, November 8, writers Anne Walsh Donnelly, Seán Hewitt, Soula Emmanuel and Neil Hegarty will come together for Out on The Page, a discussion of queer visibility in writing. The talk takes place at the Irish Writers Centre and kicks off at 1pm.

Mother Daytime Dance Party

The folks at Mother are bringing their iconic Daytime Dance Party to The George in just a couple of weeks. From 2pm to 8pm, on Saturday, November 15, Mother will take over the iconic Dublin LGBTQ+ venue, and, in collaboration with Absolut, will host a celebration of “queer visibility, freedom and togetherness”.

IFI French Film Festival
November 19 – 30

 

Embrace your inner cinephile and gear up for an incredible season of French cinema at one of Dublin’s most beloved cultural hubs, the Irish Film Institute. Over the course of 12 days, the Irish Film Institute will screen 34 French films. Don’t miss the festival’s screening of A Private Life, which sees Jodie Foster star in her first major French-speaking role.

LGBTQ+ Self-Defence Class

Ever wanted to level up your self-defence skills but in an environment where you can feel completely yourself? Look no further than Alan Kelly and Joaquin Holland of Learn to Box Now’s LGBTQ+ friendly self-defence class, taking place in Outhouse. During this class, you’ll learn techniques for real-world situations, fundamental striking skills and how to respond calmly under pressure.

The Woe Gala
November 1

Not quite ready to bid spooky season adieu just yet? Get your final fill of Halloween fun at The Woe Gala, a Freaky Friday Shows production. For one night only, the legendary Charleville Castle will be transformed into a dazzling world of dark burlesque. Tess Tickles and Bomb Ghuleh will be on hosting duties for the night, inviting audience members to sit back, relax and take in a night of performances inspired by the works of Tim Burton.

The Dolldrums
November 4 – 8

 

Rising star Liath Hannon dazzled in the recent film Boys and Girls and now you can catch her on stage in Jaxbanded Theatre’s The Dolldrums in Smock Alley Theatre. Hannon wrote the play and stars as the protagonist Lily, who is murdered by her long-suppressed subconscious Lilith and trapped in a purgatorial space.

Gold in the Water
November 1 – 21

 

Reckon these wintry nights could be brightened with a little bit of musical theatre? Well, you’re in luck because the Irish musical Gold in the Water is hitting the road. The show centres on Bart and Harvey, whose fabulous lives come to a halt when a goldfish lands on their door on the day of their anniversary celebrations – forcing them to question everything. Catch this comedy as it comes to Cork, Kilkenny, Galway and Dublin this month.

Monster of the Week
November 4

 

Kickstart your November with a night of out-of-this-world drag at Monster of the Week in the basement of Fibber MaGees. This drag show is entirely alien-themed, so expect performances of an extra-terrestrial calibre courtesy of Joanne Joanne, Sasha Shame, Dr Count Evil, Cailleach and Scarlett Phoria.

Street to Studio
November 27 – 30

 

Minaw Collective – a group of fourteen female, non-binary and queer artists – will be celebrating 12 years of artistic collaboration with Street to Studio, an exhibition in Flux on Chatham Row. The exhibition showcases a diverse body of work, from intimate studio pieces to bold, large-scale murals, all highlighting the collective’s relationship with street art.

The Kiss
November 10 – 29

Initially written to support the Marriage Equality Referendum, Jimmy Murphy’s play The Kiss is making a return to Bewley’s Theatre a decade after Ireland said yes. This gripping new production is a lyrical and darkly humorous play that examines what’s changed since 2015, and what has stayed the same.
