A disabled transgender woman in Bangalore, India, died after she was pushed off a moving train yesterday.
The 22 year-old, known as Mahadevi, was pushed off the train by a group of youths and died instantly. According to the New Indian Express, passengers chased the young people responsible, but that they escaped before authorities arrived.
A young boy who sells beverages on the train notified members of Mahadevi’s community who rushed to the scene.
Police are currently investigating the incident. “We heard about a body on the tracks and have registered a case,” commented a railway police official. “We are trying to ascertain if Mahadevi fell from the train or was pushed to death.”
The woman, who had a speech impairment, used to beg on the Bangalore-Hubli Intercity Express. Her body has been moved to a nearby hospital for a post-mortem.
