While LGBTQ+ representation in public life is continually increasing, one letter in the acronym sometimes gets left behind. Bisexual erasure happens in everyday life and in the entertainment industry, with many people often mislabelled or accused of queerbaiting or going through a phase. However, bi experiences are valid, and these are some fan-favourite celebrities who have come out throughout their careers.
Alan Cumming
Alan Cumming came out as bisexual in 1998 on the cover of Out Magazine, while he was starring in Cabaret on Broadway. Now married to artist Grand Shaffer, Cumming is often mistakenly called gay. In a 2025 interview with BuzzFeed, The Traitors host shared that while he has felt the frustration of being mislabelled, he added, “I try to, when I have a chance to, define myself as bisexual.”
Megan Skiendiel
A member of the breakthrough girl group Katseye, Megan came out as bi during a live Weverse broadcast. She was joined by fellow band member Lara Raj, who is also queer, and the pair wished each other a happy Pride before Megan confirmed, “guys, I’m coming out, I’m bisexual”.
Aubrey Anderson-Emmons
Known for her portrayal of Lily Tucker-Pritchett in the hit comedy series Modern Family, the former child star came out as bisexual earlier this year. In a TikTok video, she lip-synced to a clip from the show, and in text written over the video, she shared, “People keep joking so much about me being gay when I literally am (I’m bi)”. She also captioned the post, “Hehe happy pride month and to all a good night”.
Lady Gaga
One of the world’s biggest celebrities, Mother Monster publicly identifies as bi and is a vocal LGBTQ+ advocate. In 2010, she discussed having sexual relationships with men and women in an interview with Barbara Walters. In 2013, she additionally told Attitude, “I am bisexual, I’ve said it before I’ll say it again, I don’t need to—sorry if this is a bit vulgar—I don’t need to eat p*ssy in front of people for the whole world to take me seriously.”
Kit Connor
Known for playing Nick Nelson in the beloved queer coming-of-age series Heartsopper, Kit Connor felt forced to come out after much speculation about his sexuality. In a Tweet posted in October 2022, he wrote, “i’m bi. congrats for forcing an 18 year old to out himself. i think some of you missed the point of the show.” Since then, he has remained an integral part of the show and will star in the upcoming finale film Heartstopper Forever.
Aubrey Plaza
Having starred in a range of LGBTQ+ films, including Happiest Season and, most recently, Honey Don’t!, fans were ecstatic to discover Plaza’s LGBTQ+ identity. In a 2016 interview with Advocate, the actor spoke candidly about her sexuality, sharing, “I know I have an androgynous thing going on, and there’s something masculine about my energy. Girls are into me—that’s no secret. Hey, I’m into them too. I fall in love with girls and guys. I can’t help it.”
Anitta
Brazilian singer Anitta opened up about her bisexuality in her 2018 Netflix docuseries. In an interview with Gay Times in 2021, she said, “When it comes to bisexuality, it’s kind of tricky because first of all, I’ve never dated a woman… I’ve had relationships with girls, but it was very casual. We never dated and it wasn’t a long-term situation. So people will sometimes say, ‘Oh so you’re not really bisexual – you only date guys.’ I don’t think that it means that I’m not.”
Aja
Former Drag Race star Aja came out as bi earlier in 2025. In a post on X, she wrote, “Had the realization today that I am definitely bisexual and have been in denial about it… Welp. I guess I’m coming out. I’m bisexual.” This came four years after she came out as a trans woman.
CMAT
Next on our list of celebrities is Irish singer CMAT, who is openly bi. While promoting her new album EURO-COUNTRY, she also opened up about her “first-ever lesbian experience”, which happened at a Little Comets gig in Koko, Camden. She described it as “a 10 out of 10”. CMAT has also been a very vocal supporter of trans rights throughout her years in the spotlight.
Halsey
Halsey has long been open about her bisexuality and has discussed the pressures to prove that it wasn’t a phase. In 2018, she accepted a GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Music Artist and elaborated on the topic more. “I’m a young, bisexual woman and I’ve spent a large part of my life trying to validate myself to my friends, to my family, to myself.”
Billie Joe Armstrong
Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has been open about his bisexual identity since 1995. Speaking to Advocate, he said, “I think I’ve always been bisexual…I think people are born bisexual, and it’s just that our parents and society kind of veer us off into this feeling of ‘Oh, I can’t.’ They say it’s taboo. It’s ingrained in our heads that it’s bad, when it’s not bad at all. It’s a very beautiful thing.”
These are just some of the many wonderful celebrities who have come out publicly as bi, providing much-needed representation to fans all over the world.
